- Well, several PC-WPsystems have offered this for years. Word Perfect and Word
- have had it for years, and face it, if we can't come up with a WP-system to
- compete with these, the Amiga won't be able to compete with the PCs either.
-
- Besides, the solution you describe here is a very bad and incomplete one. OK,
- it gives a method of numbering, but not better then what you can do your self
- by hand. In fact, you have to do it by hand this way to. And what about
- subchapters, subsubchapters, and so on???? If I, say, ad subchapter 1.3, and find
- that it is better of at position 1.2, then I will have to renumber the whole
- document. So I find it inadequate. By all means.

- OK, we don't agree on this, obviously. But the point is that if you want to make
- a program sell, you have to take care of the users who want this!
-
- To illustrate my point:
- You have made a piece of software or hardware, and you want to sell it. In order to
- do so, you have to supply a written manual. For the manual to be easily read and
- offer good indexing and so on, the chapters have to have numbers!!! After having written
- your manual, you realize that you have to add a chapter and a couple of subchapters.
- So what do you have to do??? You have to manually sweep through the document, changing
- every chapter and subchapter number!!! Not very convenient.
- In this same manual, you offer a couple of figures. These are of no use to the reader,
- unless you can state what these figures actually are showing! But to do so, you have to
- write some figurecaptions, and to be able to refer to this in the text they have to have
- a number. You add one figure, and you have to manually change every figurenumber throughout
- the document. The same applies to tables and equations (OK, I admit that equations are
- of special scientific interest, but some of us want to use our great machine for this
- purpose too!!!)
-
- It is a shame that after making good software and hardware for the Amiga, you have to
- turn to PCs to write the documentation!!!!
-
- There is one alternative for doing this on the Amiga. PasTeX. Although it works great,
- it is not exactly intuitive, and there is considerable amount of learning to get into it.
- So, I would like Final Writer to do this.

- Well, anyway, I think the programmers should implement it. The tabs have been made,
- and putting a different text inside it shouldn't be that difficult. I guess that
- the tabs are made for themselves, and then the text is added, so why not let the
- user decide what texts they want in it???
-
- > that they take up too much space, though. Each tab could be 30% smaller

-
- We agree on this one. Make them smaller. And I think Microsoft Excel offers a good
- solution: The tab-markers take up a part of the bottom status line. The information
- in the bottom could be reduced, and the tab-markers moved there?
-
- Anyway, keep up the good work at Softwood!!!
-
- And while I am at it.... Let us be able to export documents from Final Writer to other
- platforms. If you decide to not implement all these numbering options I want, then at
- least let us do this part of the job in , say, Word. So if I could export my work to
- Word format, it would mean that I could do some work in Final Writer, and then take the
- work over to a PC and finish it of there.

- PS! Don't get me all wrong, here. There are a lot of great things in Final Writer.
- So I am not only critical to it, I like it! But no software is perfect, and neither
- is Final Writer... ;)
